Athletics Champs

GVAC organizes an annual student competition in Region 14 according to the Athletics Champs format. At Athletics Champs, athletics sports are tailored to the development of the child. The competitions are for all pupils from U8 to U12. At the heart of Athletics Champs is:
  • Real athletics: this means: running, jumping and throwing where the aim is to go faster, higher and further. Essentials of movements must be preserved;
    Experience of success: fun and skill are important for future sports participation.
  • The child must have fun and feel accomplished: every child has the right to be successful!
  • Teams: joung athletes need a safe, secure environment. In addition, exercising together can increase bonding and enjoyment. For this reason, U12 athletes compete against each other in teams;
  • Versatile: walking, throwing and jumping are offered in various situations that match the developmental capabilities and limitations of the children;
  • Intensive: young athletes have an enormous need for exercise: little waiting and lots of athletics is the motto! Various components must be able to be practiced in a maximum of 3 hours. Within all components there must be the opportunity for repetition and improvement;
  • LAccessible: the competition day itself must not only be easily accessible for participants, but must also be easily accessible for organizing associations, supervisors and jury. Parents must be able to play an active role in their children’s sports activities.

Liberation Day

At midnight from May 4 to 5, 8 GVAC runners and 2 drivers collect the Liberation Fire every year in Wageningen. They then bring this fire to Veldhoven via a relay run of 100 km. After arriving on the track in the afternoon of May 5, our mayor Marcel Delhez lights the Liberation Torch. There are various activities around our athletics track during the day.

More than 200 teams spread the fire in the Netherlands. In this way we want to make it clear that freedom and peace cannot be taken for granted. That is why many young people are involved in this day.

General information from Wageningen about the Liberation Fire Relay can be found on this link. The event can also be followed live on national TV. Previous broadcasts can be viewed here

Follow the team on social media. The program on the athletics track can also be found there around April.
