Liberation Day
At midnight from May 4 to 5, 8 GVAC runners and 2 drivers collect the Liberation Fire every year in Wageningen. They then bring this fire to Veldhoven via a relay run of 100 km. After arriving on the track in the afternoon of May 5, our mayor Marcel Delhez lights the Liberation Torch. There are various activities around our athletics track during the day.
More than 200 teams spread the fire in the Netherlands. In this way we want to make it clear that freedom and peace cannot be taken for granted. That is why many young people are involved in this day.
General information from Wageningen about the Liberation Fire Relay can be found on this link. The event can also be followed live on national TV. Previous broadcasts can be viewed here.
Follow the team on social media. The program on the athletics track can also be found there around April.
