Recreational walking
The GVAC walking club organizes weekly recreational walks, mostly in the Veldhoven countryside:
Tuesday afternoons: from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Thursday mornings: from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
We usually depart from a starting point in Veldhoven, but we can also start from locations in the surrounding area. Carpooling is possible from the church square on Burgemeester van Hoofflaan. If you don’t have a car, you can ride along with others for a small fee.
The distances covered are between 10 and 12 kilometers, and we will divide the walk into two groups: one for the more energetic and one for the more leisurely walkers. Halfway through the walk, we will take a break at a café or community center.
Walkers receive the walking schedules by email. They can also be found on this page on the website www.gvac.nl.
Walking isn’t an achievement, but an experience that everyone can participate in. Whether you’ve ever exercised or not, walking is a pleasant activity.
If you have any questions or would like to join us to see if walking is for you, please contact Margreth Cremers, e-mail: margrethcremers@upcmail.nl.
Nordic walking
The idea behind Nordic Walking is simple and the effects are quickly noticeable in practice. The power of this movement concept lies in its simplicity. You just have to do it right. Nordic walking is more than just walking with poles! And no dragging, please!
We walk:
Monday afternoons: from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
Friday mornings: from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
We usually finish with a nice cup of coffee in the sports canteen.
With Nordic walking, the poles create resistance that you have to overcome. Your torso and arms get extra exercise. Legs are somewhat relieved because the poles provide extra support and stability. This makes it a perfect full-body workout that practically anyone can participate in. It’s the ultimate all-around sport.
No long stories, just movement. Nordic Walking! Sometimes a bit more challenging, usually at an average walking pace, sometimes a bit slower. Engage your entire body while exercising together with others in the fresh air. Motivation is paramount. Enjoy the atmosphere and experience increased fitness and mental well-being, technique, and mobility.

Athletic walking
Physical activity for people who prefer a less intensive and less strenuous form of exercise. Athletic walking is therefore also particularly suitable for people with disabilities. Athletic walking involves brisk walking at about 5 km/h. Specially trained instructors provide a responsible and expert training program. A training session lasts approximately one to one and a half hours. It is generally very varied: a warm-up to loosen the muscles, a brisk walk, exercises with varying pace, and finally, a good walk and a good stretch.
For anyone who wants to improve their fitness. Both experienced and less experienced walkers are welcome. Because athletic walking focuses primarily on physical activity for health and well-being, GVAC specifically targets people with disabilities within this group. In this way, GVAC also aims to contribute to the integration of people with disabilities into mainstream (athletic) sports. This includes people with cardiovascular conditions, such as (recent) heart attack patients; stroke survivors; people with chronic lung disease, rheumatic diseases, diabetes, and obesity.
Athletic walking is an accessible activity. All you need are good walking shoes. Comfortable clothing is recommended but not required.
A basic requirement for participation is sufficient physical function. Anyone is welcome to join us for a few trial walks without obligation. An intake interview with one of the instructors will further discuss to what extent athletic walking meets the candidates’ expectations.
