General information
The walking committee organizes activities throughout the year for everyone who likes to exercise in nature. There are three components within the committee: recreational walking, sporty walking and Nordic walking. There is a suitable way for every walker to participate, whether you want to quietly enjoy the surroundings or want to walk more actively.
In addition to the regular walking groups, we also organize a joint walk every month on the second Sunday of the month. Everyone can participate in this walk, both members and non-members. It is a great opportunity to get to know the association and go on a fun trip with others.
In addition, two larger walking events are organized annually, the Witven Walking Event and the Great GVAC Walking Tour. As soon as the walks are known, more information will be available here. With these activities, the walking committee wants to bring people together, stimulate exercise and allow them to enjoy the beautiful walking opportunities in the area.

What is Nordic Walking?
Hard to explain but easy to try out. The idea behind Nordic Walking is simple and is therefore easy to pick up in practice. The power of this movement concept lies in its simplicity. Nordic Walking is more than walking with sticks! And no dragging please!!
The sticks create resistance that you have to overcome. The torso and arms also get trained. Legs are somewhat relieved as the sticks provide extra support and stability. This makes it a perfect workout for the entire body that basically anyone can participate in. It is the ultimate sport for a full workout.
No long stories, just moving. Nordic Walking! Sometimes a bit more challenging, usually at an average walking pace, sometimes a bit slower. Put your whole body to work while you exercise outdoors with others. Motivation is the most important. Conviviality and experience of success on a conditional and mental level, technology or mobility.
We run every Monday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM and every Friday morning from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. We usually end with a nice cup of coffee in the sports canteen.
For information and registration for a trial walk or membership contact Ivonne Peelen, phone 06-29458419, email: ivonne.peelen@gvac.nl.
Power walking
Power walking is a form of sporty exercise for people who opt for a less intensive and taxing form of sport. Power Walking is therefore particularly suitable for people with disabilities. Power Walking means walking briskly. Specially trained supervisors ensure a responsible and expert training offering. A training lasts approximately one hour to 1 Β½ hours. In general it is very varied: a warm-up to loosen the muscles, a brisk walk, exercises with changes in pace and finally some good walking and stretching.
For anyone who wants to work on their condition/fitness. Both for experienced and less experienced walkers. Because Power Walking focuses mainly on sporty exercise in terms of health and well-being, GVAC also focuses specifically on people with disabilities for this group. In this way, GVAC also wants to shape the integration of people with disabilities within regular (athletic) sports. Particular attention is paid to people with cardiovascular diseases, such as (former) heart attack patients; people who have had a stroke or who suffer from ‘window shopping legs (claudication)’; (former) cancer patients, chronic lung diseases, rheumatic diseases, diabetes, obesity.
Power Walking is an activity without barriers. All you need are good walking shoes. Clothing that is easy and comfortable is recommended but not necessary.
Basic condition for participation: sufficient movement functions to participate in the training. Anyone can come along for a few walks without obligation. In an intake interview with one of the supervisors, it will be discussed in more detail to what extent Sporty Walking meets the expectations of the candidates.
Tuesday evening: 7:00 PM tot 8.30 PM
Thursday morning: 9:30 AM tot 10:30 AM (for people with disabilities)
Thursday evening: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
