History

Step into the rich history of GVAC, founded in 1961 during the 60th anniversary of the KNAU. On November 23, passionate athletics enthusiasts gathered at restaurant “Het Witven” in Veldhoven. Under the leadership of Fred Prins, the “Groot Veldhovense Atletiek Club” (GVAC) was born. With a club uniform consisting of blue shorts and a white shirt with blue trim, and a membership fee of only Fl. 1.75 per month, GVAC began its journey.

In 1966, we celebrated our 5th anniversary, during which the founders were praised for their perseverance. GVAC grew and improved its facilities, including a 6-lane synthetic track in 1982. Since 2007, we have been training on the modern Mundorubber synthetic track at the Kempencampus. With 700 members, GVAC offers a wide range of athletics activities, from disability athletics to recreational and competitive athletes. Our club is known for organizing well-attended competitions and events such as the Veldhoven 10 Miles and the Witven Cross.

Athletics Club (newspaper article 23-11-1961)

Attempts to establish an athletics club were made for two years. On Friday evening, the decision was made at ’t Witven. During the meeting, 20 members signed up. The name chosen was G.V.A.C.: “Groot Veldhovense Atletiek Club” (Great Veldhoven Athletics Club). Mr. A. Prins, Teullandstraat 6, was elected chairman, Mr. J. van der Linden, Jaegerstraat 12, secretary, and Mr. J. Bal †, a former P.S.V. member, technical advisor. New members aged 16 and over can register at the above-mentioned addresses.

The intention is to become a member of the KNAU as of January 1st of this coming year and to organize a cross-country race between students of the L.T.S. and the U.L.O. schools as early as the beginning of next year.
